Heraclea Lyncestis

Ana never ceases to amaze me by sending perfectly paired postcards and covers! Thanks Ana. The top image features the 'deer and pheasant' mosaic from the same site as the ones shown on the 1997 stamps, Heraclea Lyncestis. It was founded by Alexander the Great's father, and later conquered by the Romans. Flourishing on the trading route Via Egnatia, the ancient settlement is well preserved with baths, mosaics and a theatre.
