Venus of Willendorf

What a highlight in my collection, thank you Mike! The famous Upper Paleolithic Venus of Willendorf is featured on this huge (41 x 61mm) self-adhesive lenticular stamp from 2008, celebrating 100 years since her discovery.
Two pre-order postmarks were made for this issue. The lower FDC was cancelled in Vienna with her front in outline, while the top FDC was cancelled in the town of Aggsbach, where she was unearthed. Not in a cave as the background would suggest, but a loess deposit in the Danube Valley. The figurine is carved from non-local oolitic limestone and has red ochre traces. Issued: August 8 2008.
