Madara Horseman

Thank you Nadya! and to Ivan who kindly translated and shared information on this 2009 pre-stamped postcard for me. It marks the 30th anniversary of the Madara Horseman to be inducted as a UNESCO site. This 8th cent. bas-relief is on a rock face 23m above current ground surface, and is thought to show a military victory with a slayed lion and an eagle flying ahead of the rider. Greek inscriptions on the wall pertain to the country's early history; they and the scene were originally covered with red plaster.
