Colony of Avalon

Here is one of the many postmarks available, for a topical list click on the 'Canada Post Pictorial Postmark' page. The Colony of Avalon in Ferryland, Newfoundland was established as an English settlement in 1621 until the French raid of 1696.  Not sure what the image is, maybe of the warehouse foundations that were partially destroyed in the 1673 Dutch attack? The archaeological evidence shows interaction with seasonal European fishermen and the Beothuks.
