Lewis Chessmen

2013 FDC of the Lewis Chessmen! These 6 were loaned to the Manx Museum for their exhibition, 'The Forgotten Kingdom' which opened on Nov. 27th 2012. Thought to have originated in 1200 from Trondheim, Norway the chessmen were found on the Isle of Lewis in 1831. Carved of walrus tusk and sperm whale tooth, some pieces still retain red pigment. Is this another indicator that perhaps, these game pieces should instead be called the Lewis Hnefataflmen?
