A postcard from a Grand Tour! (maybe). This view reminds me exactly of the view I had when I first visited it. Except, here we can see the lowest level with stalls for animals and gladiators/rix. The Roman colosseum/Flavian Amphitheater is famously the largest in the Roman empire.
I don't know how to read Italian cancels. When was this sent? 1910?
Despite the colosseum being one of the most recognizable icons of Italy, I am surprised
that it is on relatively few Italian postage stamps. Here it is on free franking/military franchise labels intended for military usage only between 1900-44. Rare and not in my collection. Check out this image and more info on military stamps here.
